Sibling Rivalry

My children were in rare form this weekend. The sibling rivalry between the two of them has increased, quickly, over the past few months. As you can imagine, it's driving me insane!

It starts early in the morning:

Triscuit: "Toblerone...MOVE! I can't see!"

Toblerone: *Squealing like a stuck pig as Triscuit tries to move him out of the way*

Triscuit: "MMMOOOOMMMMM! Toblerone won't move!!!"

Mum: "Toblerone *insert middle name*, please move out of the way."

Toblerone: *Squealing some more as I move him out of the way*

Mum: "Toblerone! That's enough! You don't need to whine!"

Toblerone: *Starts to cry...begins to wail...THEN begins THROWING a FIT*

Mum: *Ignores Toblerone's fit*

Toblerone: *Begins to kick his feet against the floor...then finds a toy and punts it across the room. Realizes it hurts and begins to wail even LOUDER*

Mum: "If you wouldn't kick things it wouldn't hurt!"

Toblerone: *Crocodile tears running down his face and picking up his foot for me to "kiss it and make it better"*

Ho hum....and this is just the BEGINNING of a normal day.

My children don't act this way (normally) when WEENIE is at home. They act like little angels (most of the time). HOWEVER...this weekend, Weenie was able to experience the chaos first hand. It starts Saturday morning...as usual.

Toblerone takes his half of banana and sippy cup of milk over to the couch, climbs up next to Triscuit to sit and watch "Oswald".

Triscuit: "TOBLERONE! LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Toblerone: *Looks at big brother with confusion*

Triscuit: "GET OFF OF ME!"

Toblerone: *Begins to get upset...and starts squealing*

Triscuit: "ARG! MOVE!!!!" *Shoves Toblerone out of the way*

Toblerone: *Squealing and whining*

Mum: "TRISCUIT! He's not even TOUCHING you! YOU NEED TO STOP IT!"

Triscuit: "BUT MMMMOOOOMMMMM! He's getting banana on me!"

Mum: "NO HE'S NOT! You need to stop....RIGHT NOW!"

Triscuit: *Crosses his arms and slumps down*

Mum: *Deep breath...counts backwards from 10*. "Son...you need to get used to your brother wanting to be with you. He looks up to you...you're his big brother and he thinks you are the COOLEST thing on two legs."

Triscuit: "Really?"

Mum: "Yes."

Triscuit COMPLETELY changes his attitude and begins to PLAY with Toblerone. I'm thinking, "Good...I've put out THAT fire." HA! It doesn't last.

Fast forward....2 hours later. We are on our way to Costco:

Toblerone: *Squealing from the backseat of the car*

Triscuit: "DAAAAD! He's got my toy!"

Weenie: "He's not hurting anything! SHARE WITH YOUR BROTHER!"

Triscuit: "But it's MINE!"

Weenie: "How old are you?"

Triscuit: "Seven."

Weenie: "Please ACT like your seven! SHARE your toys with your brother."

All is quiet for about 30 seconds, then we hear... *SMACK*! Weenie looks in the rear-view mirror to see Triscuit taking the toy away from Toblerone and Toblerone SMACKING Triscuit.

Triscuit: "OW! Toblerone just hit me!!!!"

Weenie: *Reaches back and gives Triscuit a pinch*

Triscuit: *begins to cry* "DAD!!! I didn't do anything!!!!!"

Weenie: "YES YOU DID! I SAW you take the toy away from your brother AFTER I told you to SHARE! When we get home, you are going to your room."

Triscuit: "NOOOOOO!!!! I don't WANNNNAAAA!!!!"

Weenie: *Looks at me with disgust*.

Mum: *Smiling on the INSIDE*, "Welcome to MY world."

Oh no...it doesn't stop there....

We come home. As we are bringing in our haul from Costco, I hear this:

*THUD*!

Mum: *Running to the living room* "WHAT JUST HAPPENED!?!?!"

Triscuit: *CRYING* "Toblerone just threw a toy at me!!!!"

Mum: "WHY did he throw a toy at you????" (I know better....Toblerone wouldn't just pitch a toy at Triscuit for the fun of it...it's usually instigated by Triscuit)

Triscuit: "He had my toy and I went to take it away from him...then he threw it at me."

By this point, Weenie and I have had ENOUGH! Toblerone gets put down for a nap and Triscuit is sent to his room.

Weenie and I both know that this is normal....but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with! Weenie was the oldest of 5 boys, so he knows just how bratty a big brother can be. I'm the youngest of 2 girls...so I know how ANNOYING a younger sibling can be.

For those of you out there that grew up with siblings...do you remember your parent(s) saying this to you????And now that we are PARENTS, we understand how FRUSTRATING this behavior was to OUR parents.

I think I need to call my parents (and sister) and apologize.
